Polite greeting – receptionist

This is an example of a more formal greeting between two people who don’t know each other. English speakers use “Good morning” for any time up until lunchtime; “Good afternoon” for the time after lunch (around 1pm onwards) until late afternoon; and “Good evening” from about 6pm. We use “Good night” either when we say good bye to someone who we won’t see again until the following morning, or before we go to sleep.
