Keep the Conversation Going – Ask a Question
One way to keep the conversation going is to ask a question. You can make a very short question by using an auxiliary (such as do / does / did / have etc, depending on the tense used.) In this example, the second speaker uses “Did you?” to comment on the other speaker’s story.
Even one word like “Really?” with rising intonation can be enough to make a question.
